About BestCityFor

BestCityFor is a decision engine for city-level tradeoffs. We use public data to compute transparent scores and publish the “why it ranks” drivers so you can sanity-check the results.

What it is

  • Data-backed rankings for specific “best city for X” verticals.
  • Explainable scorecards with national medians and drivers.
  • Built on city proper (incorporated places), not metro areas.

What it isn’t

  • A neighborhood-level guide (city averages can hide big differences).
  • A promise about your personal outcomes (your constraints matter more than a rank).
  • A complete model of everything (taxes, healthcare, walkability, and culture are hard to quantify in v1).

How to use the rankings

  1. Start with a vertical (Remote Work or Retirement) and scan the top 25.
  2. Click into a few cities and read “Why it ranks” + “Watch-outs”.
  3. Use the score breakdown to see which categories drive the score.
  4. Validate locally (neighborhoods, taxes, healthcare, insurance, your support network).

For details on the score math, see Methodology.
